Site visit to barriers on the Vrljika and Jadro Rivers and project partners’ meeting in Dugopolje

In the context of the Improve River LIFE Project, the project team of partners from the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Green Transition, Hrvatske vode, the Faculty of Science and the Public Institution “Sea and Karst” visited the project sites on the Vrljika and Jadro Rivers during 18-19 March 2025 together with a team of design and project monitor. The visit focused on harmonizing human needs with the preservation of the rivers’ natural values.

The first day of the site visit was devoted to the Vrljika River, considering possible approaches to improving river connectivity and enabling fish migration, at the same time protecting the endemic fish species of softmouth trout (Salmo obtusirostris) and preserving habitats.

On the second day of the site visit, the focus shifted to the Jadro River, which in addition to all its natural values also has a number of infrastructural challenges. Approaches to the removal or adjustment of river barriers were discussed in order to ensure a better flow of water and upstream and downstream migration of fish.

A meeting of the project partners was held on 20 March 2025 in Dugopolje, analysing the reports, the status of activities, and financial standing of the Improve River LIFE Project and making preparations for the preparation of a periodic report.
